Telstra says it will support the national broadband policy of whichever political party takes out the federal election.
"We will support whatever the government of the day's policy is in relation to the NBN," Telstra chief executive Andy Penn told reporters on Thursday.
"We've done our best to ensure that the agreements that we negotiated are technology agnostic, so we're in a really good position to support whatever broadband policy whichever government chooses."
It was not the job of Telstra to decide what the national broadband policy should be, he said.
Mr Penn also said the business community generally wants a degree of stability and certainty, but was reluctant to weigh in on the election campaign.
"I'm not really in a position to comment about the election or various sides of politics," he said.
Speaking earlier in an address to an American Chamber of Commerce in Australia event, Mr Penn said he expects Telstra to generate more business overseas in the long term.
About 15 per cent of Telstra's business is currently conducted overseas.
"I certainly think that over the longer term, we will find ourselves generating more and more business internationally as well as supporting our domestic operations," he said.
"There is an enormous amount of opportunity for companies like Telstra to provide services such as cloud computing, managed network services - we're doing quite a lot of business in electronic health."
