From Prominent Nob to Chunda Bay, this Australian map isn't like others

Forget Uluru or the Opera House, a UK map maker has created a new map of Australia, but don't expect to find your traditional landmarks on this ridiculous snapshot of Australian sites.

The map of Tasmania

The Dump, Bullshit Hill and Dirty Dick Creek are just afew of the hundreds of actual place names highlighted in a new map produced by UK company Strumpshaw, Tincleton & Giggleswick.

Covering the entire island continent, company founder Humphrey Butler said Tasmania was of particular interest for its concentration of comical names.

"One of the things that I think makes the Aussie map is that there are quite a few places that sound really, really Australian," he told the BBC.

"There's a place called Dinkum, there's a place called Mate, there's a place called Bruce as well."

Mr Butler came up with the idea for the maps after he took a road trip around the UK.

"When you're travelling like that, you look at map and road signs and notice all these funny sounding place names."

The company has also created maps for the US and Britain, but Australia remains the favourite for Mr Butler.

"There are a lot of Knobs in Australia," he said.

"There are hundreds and hundreds of Knobs all over Australia but there is one called Prominent Nob in South Australia and that does make us laugh."

The company website described the map as "classy from afar but very far from classy up close".

"The marvellous map is cunningly disguised as a quaint vintage map that nobody will suspect from across the room," the map description said.
