Magnitude 5.8 quake strikes off PNG

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 has struck 180 kilometres southeast of Rabul in Papua New Guinea.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 struck has struck 182 kilometres southeast of Rabaul in the Pacific nation of Papua New Guinea, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) says.

Wednesday's quake was initially reported as magnitude of 5.9.

There was no immediate tsunami warning, or reports of damage or casualties from the quake, which struck at a depth of 57km.
