Tony Abbott has accepted an invitation to be patron of Australians for a Constitutional Monarchy.

The former prime minister was the organisation's executive director from 1992 to 1994, before he entered parliament.

Mr Abbott, who added the role to his parliamentary pecuniary interest register this week, will speak at the organisation's national conference in Sydney at the end of October.
