From backyards to bedrooms, faster internet is fuelling increased investment in smart appliances in a bid to go green and save money, according to leading technology experts.
New research from Telsyte Australian IOT @ Home Market Study has revealed the number of mobile-connected devices in the average Australian home will grow from 11 to 29 over the next four years as more homes connect to the National Broadband Network.
Whether it's lighting sensors, smart heating or automated sprinklers, the research suggests people believe connecting their whitegoods and gardening tools to the internet will save money and take better care of the environment.
Telsyte's principal analyst Foad Fadaghi said consumers were turning to technology to save money and improve their lifestyles.
"Spending on smart home products is expected to increase over the coming years," he said.
Products such as sprinkler systems, robot vacuums and smart heating systems will be able to be accessed by mobile phone apps and fast broadband will give people the confidence to control their appliances from a laptop or tablet.
