A farmer was trapped for more than three days under a hay baler before being freed by emergency services.

A 65-year-old man had been trapped by the machinery on the Mount Duneed property since Saturday, a State Emergency Services spokesman told AAP.

The alarm was not raised with emergency services until Tuesday when the CFA, State Emergency Service volunteers and paramedics were called to the farm, near Geelong, about 6.45pm.

The delicate operation to rescue the farmer took almost three hours.

He was freed about 9.20pm, is in a critical condition and will be driven to Barwon Health in Geelong, an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said.

As of 10.20pm he was still being transported to hospital.

A hay baler is a piece of machinery used to compress a cut crop into bales for transport and storage.
