Seven miners have been killed and 22 others remain trapped, following two accidents in Chinese coal mines, according to local authorities.
The first incident took place in a small mine situated in a rural area of Jiangxi province, in southeast China, which was completely flooded on November 23.
While 14 workers were rescued, seven others remain missing. Following a week of pumping operations, rescue teams have given them up for dead and suspended rescue activities for fear of triggering geological problems in the area.
In the other incident, 22 miners were trapped due to a landslide at a mine in Heilongjiang province, in the country's far northeast, rescue teams said.
The incident took place Tuesday night and emergency services are working to try and save those trapped.
Mining accidents are frequent in China, and official figures say a total of 171 people died in 45 mines last year.
