Missing Sydney swimmer's body found

A search is set to continue for a man who went missing while swimming with friends in the Nepean River in Sydney's west.

The body of a swimmer who went missing on Boxing Day at a waterhole in western Sydney has been found.

The 25-year-old Sydney man's body was discovered at about 8.25am on Tuesday in water not far from where he disappeared while swimming with friends within the Bents Basin State Conservation Area in the Nepean River at Greendale.

Police say the man disappeared not long after entering the water at around 3.30pm on Monday.

Police and state emergency volunteers found no sign of the swimmer on Monday but his body was found soon after the search resumed on Tuesday morning.

The man is among four people to have drowned in NSW on Boxing Day.

Geoffrey Blackadder, 60, died while trying to rescue young relatives caught in a rip at at Wooli Beach on the NSW North Coast.

A 56-year-old man drowned at Merry Beach at Kioloa on the NSW South Coast, while a 27-year-old man lost his life after going swimming at a picnic ground in the Kangaroo Valley in the Shoalhaven region.

NSW Police are due to hold a media conference to highlight the importance of water safety.
