Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has paid tribute to 2017's Australian of the Year finalists, thanking them for being change-makers.
The awards showed Australians how to strive to be better, Mr Turnbull told the audience gathered at Parliament House's Great Hall on Wednesday night.
"Each of the 32 finalists here tonight has already made an indelible imprint on our national story, as educators and innovators, investigators and creators, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, volunteers and pioneers and all of them as change-makers."
