Beth Mooney named WBBL's best player

Beth Mooney has taken out the WBBL player of the tournament award after plundering five half-centuries.

Brisbane Heat opener Beth Mooney has been named player of the WBBL tournament following a series of outstanding displays with bat and gloves.

Mooney scored 482 runs at an average of 43.81, including five half-centuries, to finish second on the run-scoring list behind Meg Lanning (502).

Mooney was also a standout behind the stumps, completing 10 stumpings among her 12 dismissals.

The 23-year-old finished five votes clear of the Hobart Hurricanes' New Zealand import Amy Satterthwaite (29 votes), while emerging Sydney Sixers youngster Ashleigh Gardner (26), Melbourne Stars captain Lanning (24) and Sixers wicketkeeper/batsman Alyssa Healy (24) also featured in the top five.

Votes are awarded on a 3-2-1 basis by the standing umpires at the end of each match, meaning a player can receive up to six votes per game.

The Young Gun award was won by Gardner, who achieved the most umpire votes for players aged under 21.

Gardner, 19, had a breakout tournament, the allrounder producing a number of match-winning innings for the Sixers, finishing with 393 runs and claiming 10 wickets.
