Car fire on Harbour Bridge causes delays

Firefighters have quickly extinguished a car that caught fire on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during peak-hour traffic.

A car that caught fire in the middle of the Sydney Harbour Bridge during peak-hour traffic was quickly extinguished by firefighters but motorists can expect delays.

The engine burst into flames as the car travelled along a southbound lane shortly before 9am on Wednesday, but it was quickly contained by firefighters, according to Fire & Rescue NSW.

At least two southbound lanes and two northbound lanes were closed for a short time due to the "smouldering" car, according to Transport Management Centre.
