Auto brakes may prevent 40pc crashes: RACV

Fitting all new cars with automatic emergency braking could prevent two out of every five car crashes, Victoria's motoring body says.

The RACV says automatic emergency braking (AEB) uses radar, laser and/or camera sensors to detect potential crashes and apply the brakes, while data from their own study showed it could stop up to 40 per cent of crashes.

"AEB can make all the difference in stopping a fright turning into a blight," RACV's vehicle engineering manager, Michael Case said in a statement on Tuesday.
