China chips in for Australian jobs

A report by the Australia-China Relations Institute finds Australians are lukewarm about foreign direct investment despite its contribution to jobs.

The work of nearly two million Australians - one in six of all jobs - is supported by foreign direct investment, research has found.

The Australia-China Relations Institute released the findings in a report on Monday but said Australians were still largely lukewarm in their support of foreign investment.

"In terms of investment source countries, evidence is also presented that suggests China may have generated the biggest employment benefits in recent years," the report states.
