Almost four years after his wife ran screaming from her home engulfed in a "ball of fire" a Sydney man has been charged with her murder.
Parwinder Kaur, 32, died in December 2013, a day after suffering full thickness burns to 90 per cent of her body at her Rouse Hill home in Sydney's northwestern suburbs.
Police arrested Ms Kaur's 37-year-old husband at a home in Rouse Hill on early Wednesday morning and he has since been charged with one count of murder.
He is due to face Parramatta Local Court later in the day.
Superintendent Rob Critchlow described the investigation into Ms Kaur's death "dogged".
Ms Kaur's family has expressed its "overwhelming sense of relief" at an arrest.
"They strongly felt that the death of Ms Kaur was a matter that required investigation and that someone was responsible for it," Supt Critchlow told reporters.
"The process was very painstaking, it took a long time because it was so complex."
Hampering the efforts of Strike Force Whyalla detectives in the investigation was a lack of witnesses and forensic delays.
"One of the biggest delays was just the analysis of the physical evidence; there was evidence that arose from her burns that needed to be considered in relation to how fire behaves," Supt Critchlow said.
"Justice rushed is justice delayed ... it's a most compelling brief and a strong case we submit before the courts."
