The competition watchdog and Apple have been referred to mediation, over claims iPhone customers were misled about their warranty rights.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has launched legal action against Apple, for allegedly refusing to provide a free remedy if a defective device had been taken to a non-approved repairer.

On Tuesday, Federal Court judge Mark Moshinsky referred the parties to mediation, to be concluded by March 2, before a future trial date is set.
