The Green's strong showing in central Brisbane in Saturday's poll should dispell the "myth" the left-wing party can't win seats in Queensland, according to Maiwar candidate Michael Berkman.
The 36-year-old is on the cusp of creating history by becoming the first Greens' candidate to win a seat in Queensland parliament, taking the big scalp of LNP frontbencher Scott Emerson in the way.
He remains neck and neck with Labor's Ali King for second on primary votes in the western suburbs seat, with whoever wins that battle almost certain the wrest the seat from the shadow treasurer on preferences.
The environmental lawyer says the result, along with similar showings in nearby South Brisbane and McConnel showed the party should be taken as a serious electoral threat in Queensland.
"There's a, hopefully soon to be dispelled, myth that we can't win, that we won't win seats," Mr Berkman told AAP.
"There can be no mistaking now that the Greens are a party that will continue to take office in Queensland and continue to build our representation."
Mr Berkman put the result down to the party's field campaign and "getting to people's doors and having conversations" over the past 12 months.
If elected, the father of two said he was willing to work with the likely-to-be-returned Labor government, but would continue to press the Greens agenda of banning political donations, improving public transport and stopping the Adani coal mine.
Federal leader Richard Di Natale said Mr Berkman's efforts "potentially puts us in a very, very powerful position".
"The one thing stands that between the Adani mine being built is the Greens," he told reporters in Melbourne.
"Front and centre of this negotiation will be stopping the Adani coal mine.
"I think this is a huge blow to the Adani mine."
