When you’re trying to raise $50,000 for a children’s charity how do you set yourself apart from every one else? You take photos of a bearded man in provocative photos for a calendar and title it “The Whimsical Woodsman” that’s how.
Chad Castigliano, from Chronicker Photography, teamed up on the concept with his wife Jasmine who runs ‘Books to the Rescue’, a non-profit children’s charity that provides backpacks full of books, stuffed animals, and the like to crisis first responders. They act as a distraction and limit the emotional impact of adverse childhood experiences.

After reading about “dudeoir” online, they decided making their own charity calendar could be just the ticket so they enlisted the help of a willing friend.
“We contacted our friend Tim and asked if he would do it, and of course being the great, funny, and loving guy he is, he agreed,” Castigliano says to SBS. “We went into the woods in Cherry Arizona and took the photos. It was ridiculous of course, we laughed hard for the first 10 minutes probably and then kind of got into the shoot. His wife and I worked with the poses, but as the time went on he got into it and started being goofy with it and we got some great photos from that! We had images on our phones of women posing that we thought would work great also, so we referred to those photos as we went along too. But overall, the photo shoot was completely ridiculous as you would expect, and after a little warming up, Tim got into it and had a lot of fun doing it and making things up like that suspenders photo where he has them pulled out, that was ALL Tim!”
Although the calendar is for charity, there’s always a risk that going viral may have an impact on the subject. But for Tim, a busy wildlands firefighter in the middle of Arizona fire season, it’s all good. “Since we are in a small town, it's not too bad really! He has be recognised a couple of time at his kids baseball games, but really he has been working nonstop since the photos were posted. The guys who he works for have been great! They actually appreciate it saying he has ‘big balls’ for doing it. One other group of firefighters from another town sent him a formal letter requesting autographed photos, they think it's funny and have been good natured about it all!”
