A group of Amnesty International delegates is embarking on a 12-day visit to some of Australia's immigration detention facilities.

On completion of the tour, which includes Christmas Island, Darwin and Western Australia, the human rights group will publish a report on their findings.

Amnesty's Refugee expert Dr Graham Thom is one of three delegates expected to meet with asylum seekers, immigration officials and detention centre staff during the visits.

Kristina Kukolja asked Dr Thom about Amnesty's expectations of the trip.
