A body set up to prevent, detect and investigate serious and systemic corruption in the federal law enforcement agencies could be given greater powers.

The Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity oversees the Australian Crime Commission, the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and the Australian Federal Police.

A parliamentary inquiry has been launched to look at the potential for law enforcement officials who are stationed overseas to be corrupted.

The committee undertaking the inquiry is headed by West Australian Labor MP Melissa Parke.

She told Greg Dyett the inquiry might see the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity getting extra powers.
