A diplomat at the Syrian Embassy in Canberra is calling on the Australian government to track down a group of men who forced their way into the building at the weekend causing extensive damage.

The attack coincided with similar disturbances at Syrian embassies in Europe and the Middle East, apparently sparked by China and Russia's decision to veto a United Nations' resolution calling for Syria's President Bashar Assad to stand down.

Phillippa Carisbrooke reports.
