Political analyst Nick Economou says Kevin Rudd's decision to resign as Foreign Minister will enable him to return to the backbench and win more support from his Labor caucus colleagues.

 

Dr Economou, from Monash University, told Greg Dyett that the federal government would lose the election if Julia Gillard remains leader.
