Summer is the favourite time of year for many -- especially on Australia's coastline, where people enjoy the sun, surf and sand.

 

But hot weather and water-based activities can also pose some risks.

At this time of year, probably the most common risk faced by people around the country is sunburn.

 

It only takes a few minutes under Australia's harsh sun to burn the skin.

 

But there are a few simple steps you can take to ensure that you don't have a painful reminder of your fun in the sun for days, or even weeks, afterwards.

 

There's an old sun safety message in Australia -- Slip, Slop, Slap.
