Celebrating Mr D B Kuruppu's Service to the Literature

Mr D B Kuruppu has written more than 50 books both in Sinhala and English. Among those books, there are fictions as well as non fictions.
His immense service to the literature was celebrated in Melbourne on 18 February 2012.
Thirteen of his new books also were launched at this ceremony.
DB's fictions are intertwined with contemporary socio, political and economic backgrounds of Sri Lanka and Australia.
With his non fiction, DB has covered a wide variety of subjects including history, religion and psychology.
Being the first writer to translate a collection of Australian short stories to Sinhala, DB has also adapted a number of world classics to Sinhala.
He has pioneered a childrens literature for expatriate Sri Lankans children by writing a series of homeland stories in English.
He has written a Sinhala grammar book especially for teachers and children who are teaching and learning Sinhala in Australia.
Paying tribute to the writer, former head of Sinhala Language Group Sydney, Dr Ubeyasiri Wijeyananda Wickrama introduced DB's background in literature, at this ceremony.
Sinhala language teacher and Sinhala coordinator of Victorian School of Languages Mrs Himalee Karunasena elaborated the significance of DB's writings to the expatriate Sri Lankans and their children, in an educational point of view.
Mr Upa Upadasa has noted something special in DB's writings. Giving examples he expanded his point to prove those writings as chronicles of the contemporary society.
DB's writings on religion and psychology and their relevance to our day to day lives was discussed by Mr Waruna Savinda.
Executive Producer of SBS Sinhala program Dr Palitha Ganewatte reviewed DB's adaptations of world classics to Sinhala.
Former Diplomat and journalist Mr S Piyasena talked about DB's service to the Sinhala and English literature.
