PM appoints counter-terrorism coordination team

Australia's former ambassador to Indonesia, Greg Moriarty, is to become the nation's first counter-terrorism coordinator.


Mr Moriarty will head a new office within Prime Minister Tony Abbot's own department.


As well, Justice Minister Michael Keenan becomes minister assisting the prime minister on counter terrorism.

The government says the appointments will ensure nothing is missed in the fight against terrorism.

In recent weeks the xenophobic attacks against Ethiopians in South Africa and the killing of more than 28 Ethiopians by Daesh in Libya has caused outrage and grief among Ethiopian citizens around the world. Ethiopians have also mourned for their citizens who have been killed in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.


Our panellists Tsegaye Regassa (the former Senior Lecturer at Addis Ababa University and a PhD Candidate at University of Melbourne Law School), Aderajew Taklo (a PhD Candidate at University of Monash Law School), and Ayalew Hundessa (the former President of the Ethiopian Community Association of New South Wales) share their views about the role of the Ethiopian community, and the greater Ethiopian diaspora, to help victims.
