Eurovision 2015: Will Sweden take its sixth title?

Sweden is on track to claim its sixth Eurovision title, with bookmakers and fans tipping the nation will win this year's contest. SBS Europe Correspondent Brett Mason sat down with Måns Zelmerlöw ahead of the semi-finals in Vienna.

Eurovision five time champions, Sweden, are the hot favourites to take home this year's prize with their pop track, Heroes by Måns Zelmerlöw.

"Europe needs a song about hope. I think that could be good. I think we need hope, we need role models, we need heroes this year," Zelmerlöw said.

In a contest packed with ballads, Sweden hope its performance of its power-pop song, which makes clever use of the arena's giant screens, will stand out from the pack.
"Eurovision is really big in Sweden. Melodifestivalen which is the selection process has over like, almost half of the population watching so there is some pressure on my shoulders from back home. But I don't think they will hate me if I don't win. I think I'll still have a career back home. I hope so at least. But obviously I'm competitive so I would want a high score.. that would be great," said Zelmerlöw.

Ireland has won the most Eurovision song contests with 7 titles - followed by Sweden, Luxembourg, France and Britain – which have won 5 titles each.

This year the Swedes are facing some tough competition from other popular song entries from Italy - and Australia.

"I'm just really glad you guys are in Eurovision this year and you're now a part of Europe. Thanks for that... you're very welcome to stay. I think Australia has a great song and I'm a big Guy Sebastian fan," Zelmerlöw said.
