SBS Production Hub in Western Sydney

For 50 years SBS has been telling stories that inform, inspire, entertain and authentically reflect diverse people and communities across Australia.

As we look to the network’s future, we are excited to be expanding our production facilities to Western Sydney and to be part of the region’s own great growth story.

The Australian Government has provided SBS with funding to develop a Western Sydney production hub and talent incubator.

The hub will become a home for increased SBS programming, including news and current affairs, multilingual audio services and screen content. It will provide local communities with improved access to SBS jobs and education pathways and greater opportunities to connect with one of the world’s most diverse media organisations.

Current project updates

23 July - Next stage of location search process now underway

SBS progresses plans for new Western Sydney Production Hub

Following a strong response to its recent Request for Expressions of Interest (EOI) process, SBS has shortlisted a number of proposals received in response to that EOI and launched the next phase of the project to establish a new production hub and talent incubator in Western Sydney.

The next stage involves consideration of leasing and purchase options and gives shortlisted proponents the opportunity to submit more detailed proposals for a location that can support SBS’s vision for a future-focused, world-class media facility.  This marks a major milestone in the development of the hub, which will expand SBS’s production capacity, create local jobs and training opportunities, and strengthen community engagement in one of Australia’s fastest-growing and most diverse regions.

The outcomes of these processes will directly inform the selection of a preferred site, which SBS expects to confirm by late 2025. This decision will form a critical input into the business case which will be provided to the Australian Government at the end of this year for funding consideration.

Stay tuned to this page for updates as the project progresses through this exciting next phase.
