Barry Vera
Barry Véra arrived in Australia in May 2001 from the United Kingdom
where he worked for some of the world’s best restaurants and chefs.
Véra trained in France and has worked under great names like Marco
Pierre White and Conran Restaurants.
Barry has won various
awards in his travels and notoriety, also being listed as one of the
icons of Australian food by Vogue Entertaining and Travel.
He
has spent time in France, Canada, London, and Cape Town, South Africa,
and Melbourne, where he opened his first restaurant. More recently,
Barry has re-settled in the UK and is working on the launch of a new
concept restaurant in Hertfordshire.
Barry’s ambitions to branch
out into media saw him host the Dreampool Productions / SBS
co-productions of Feast India & Feast Bazaar, filmed on location in
India, Morocco & Syria. Focusing on the food, culture, history and
religion of those places, the programs offer viewers a glimpse into
these fascinating countries. Through his journeys, Barry has gained
knowledge and insight into the cuisines of different cultures, and has
documented that discovery in a series of books. Barry has authored two
books, published through Hardie Grant and Murdoch, and is currently
working on his third publication.
