His name is Romuald Hazoumé and he is one of the greatest African artists. While many designers settled in the West, Hazoumé chose to stay in his native country to create a unique work of art, one that is based on cans, those thousands of cans used by dealers to transport the gasoline illegally imported from neighboring Nigeria. These objects, which swarm along the roads, have become genuine works art and are a tribute to all those who engage in a daily struggle for survival.

The Devil's Gold
Mali is an important producer of gold. This story takes us 100 kilometres from Bamako to the gold fields, or rather mines of Mali, where people from all over Africa come to try and make their fortune, or simply a living, in rather terrifying conditions.
Faraway People Series
Llanos, a Promised Land
The vast water plains of the Llanos are Venezuela’s Far West. In the Apure region, breeding areas often exceed the 50,000 hectares. Such is the case of the Hato El Frio, which has been exploited by the Maldonado family for a century.
The life of Gilbert Perez, one of the 70 llaneros on the domain, is punctuated by the movements of Brahmins cow herds, the marking of young calves, and the selection of pastures. On weekends, when Gilbert returns home, he participates in the coleo, the Venezuelan rodeo. He hopes one day he’ll win the jackpot.
Nature abounds in this floodable savannah, which is home to over 400 species of birds, anacondas, caimans and the famous chiguire, the world’s largest rodent.
Alexander Maldonado, the owner of the Hato, decided to protect this exceptional wildlife, which he observes during each of his visits.
But today, the Venezuelan government calls into question the legitimacy of hacienda owners and distributes unused land to the unemployed. Near Mantecal, Cachamay, a piscicultural cooperative, exploits the lagoons as the state placed some lands at his disposal. This agrarian reform has made it difficult for new farmers and large historical landowners to cohabitate!
