About the Show
Heirlooms is a beautifully crafted animated documentary series that artfully explores the relationship between people and their heirlooms.
Based on 10 interviews with men and women from diverse cultural backgrounds, these animations bring to life the emotions each heirloom arouses.
These feelings inextricably bind their current owner with their past. The compact nature of the one-minute format transforms fascinating true stories into poetic visual narratives, delicately imagined and rendered by award winning animators, Susan Danta and Wendy Chandler.
The series uses a variety of animation techniques such as paint-under-camera style animation and cutout animation. These techniques, combined with the use of original photographs, reveal the intimate personal stories that the heirloom symbolises.
These moving narratives showcase the universal tradition of passing down family heirlooms, uniting the myriad of cultures that make up our contemporary society. Heirlooms, no matter how small or valuable, offer an immeasurable insight into our past in order to better prepare us for the future.
