Virginia Haussegger
When ABC journalist Virginia Haussegger wrote an opinion piece in 2002 declaring herself “childless and angry” because feminism had encouraged women’s careers at the expense of their biological clocks, she all but severed a national nerve.
The article sparked debates that have waged ever since about whether women really do have choices when it comes to careers, kids, love and life.
Her subsequent book, Wonder Woman: The myth of having it all, delivered a poignant and personal story on the experience of many women suddenly confronted with the prospect of childlessness.
Five years on, Virginia says she’s moved on, though she continues to write and report on feminism and women’s situations across the world.
She is currently the presenter of the ABC’s nightly Canberra news bulletin and has previously worked as a reporter and presenter for the 7:30 Report, A Current Affair and Witness.
Virginia lives in Canberra with her husband.
