Listening to our youth is as equally important to as listening to our elders.

To celebrate the 2016 National Youth Week, the SBS National Youth Week Competition called for entries from young people around Australia to pitch their story for audiences to learn about identity.

The winning entrants have completed a five day film making workshop in Melbourne based on industry standards and are now ready to start producing their segments for television.

Taz Clay is the Indigenous Youth Winner for the competition.

Taz grew up in Townsville QLD, and is a seventeen year old trans youth who wants to tell his story about affirming his gender.

Taz came out last year on the Living Black Television episode of Brotherboys and speaks of his struggle with dealing racism and transphobia while transitioning from female to male.

Taz believes it is an important time for his story to be told as the Safe Schools debate continues and the visibility of young people coming out transgender is higher in our communities.

Taz explains that it up to people to set the terms on how they want to come out so they can be who they want to be.

The winners short films on identity will be shown on air on SBS during National Youth Week (8 April to 17 April) On The SBS Learn Site and On Demand until the end of the year.
