Chamkaur Sodhi and his father had a narrow escape as their B-Double truck erupted in flames while the duo was travelling along the Northern Expressway on Monday afternoon.

The 28-year-old driver told Ten Eyewitness News that he had a peculiar chemical smell before he decided to pull over, and then there was no time before his just three-week-old truck caught fire. The driver and his father had to run to save their lives.
"I got out, hooked up the bonnet and there was fire everywhere inside," he said.

When the truck caught fire, it was carrying a large stock of wine from Adelaide to Sydney.
The fire crews put out the fire in just ten minutes that completely destroyed the front part of the truck.

They have commended the quick thinking by Chamkaur in having pulled over in time that saved his and his father's lives, besides the possible damage to other commuters on the highway.
