Alfred (Fredi) Brežnik AM isn't only a very popular and active member within the Slovenian community in Sydney, he was also the long serving Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Slovenia in NSW and a driving force behind the movement for Slovenian Independence in Australia. Brežnik has received numerous awards and recognition for his tireless work within the Slovenian community and promoting Slovenia around the world. In 2001, he was officially recognised by the Slovenian Government for his work in promoting Slovenia at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. In 2010 he received a well deserved "Member of the Order of Australia AM" for his contribution to the Slovenian community in Australia. Fredi, as he is more affectionately known celebrated his 80th birthday on May 17th this year. We wish him all the very best with many more years of good health!
