Gina Chick and Darren Mara in the studio for Alone Australia: The Podcast

As the first week of their time in the wilderness comes to a close, we've now been introduced to all the remaining participants. Gina Chick and Darren Mara chat through each survivalist's wins and challenges, as reality sets in and starvation begins to affect the brain. We also sit down with one of the participants for a meaty chat about their approach to hunting. How hard is it to successfully hunt game in this location with just your wits and your ten survival items? Plus, Duane from season 1 joins us to share how the Alone experience changed him, and discuss how this season's cast are faring so far. Warning: This episode contains spoilers for Alone Australia season 2 episode 3. Make sure you've watched it before listening.

Even for an experienced hunter, Alone takes the challenge of hunting to a whole new level by limiting your options for location and gear.

Gina and Darren chat to Andreas to find out what it's like trying to hunt in the Aotearoa wilderness compared to his usual pursuits in Australia. And we find out why he loves jumping between city life and outdoor adventures.
I want to have one day sitting down, dressed up, having an orange mocha frappuccino, and the next day I want to starve and drink out of a creek. It just makes things more interesting.
Andreas
In season 1 of Alone Australia, First Nations man and Wildlife & Environmental Officer Duane was the fifth participant to leave, tapping out on day ten after struggling with the isolation. He joins Gina and Darren to reflect on his experiences and chat about how the new participants are getting on.
In the show, a lot of people don't really get what they want, but they get what they need... You have so much time to think about yourself and who you are as a person, it just changes your mind frame completely.
