It was the scandal that nearly brought down an American president. In 1998 US President Bill Clinton finally admitted to having a relationship with White House intern, Monica Lewinsky, after he previously denied they’d engaged in sexual relations.

The House Judiciary Committee proposed impeachment.

Indeed I did have a relationship with Miss Lewinsky which was not appropriate. In fact it was wrong.

Bill Clinton refused to resign and was eventually acquitted of perjury and obstruction of justice.
