Spiral season 7 arrives

This popular French crime thriller is now into its seventh season. Our heroes have a tendency to uncover more than they’ve bargained for. While working hard to solve crimes and keep terrorist threats at bay, they also face the challenge of balancing their work and personal lives. Set in Paris, Spiral stars Caroline Proust (Colette une Femme Libre), Audrey Fleurot (The Intouchables) and Thierry Godard (Bastille Day). You’ll find yourself wanting the best for them.

Season 7 of Spiral has just arrived at SBS On Demand. Seasons 5 and 6 are also streaming now. Here’s season 7 episode 1:

Pagan Peak

Reminiscent of The Bridge, when a body is discovered on the border between Germany and Austria, a joint investigation is launched. Pitted together are the confident, optimistic German detective Ellie Stocker (Julia Jentsch) and her Austrian counterpart, the nihilistic cynic, police inspector Gedeon Winter. The killer has arranged the body in a way that indicates some kind of pagan ritual took place. As more such bodies are found, the pair discover long forgotten pagan customs of this region in their hunt for the very twisted killer. Keep the blankets around for this one. The Alpine peaks are laden with snow.

Season 1 of Pagan Peak is streaming now at SBS On Demand:

Cardinal

Set in the fictional township of Algonquin Bay in Ontario, this Canadian thriller is addictive. When a cold case re-opens, it spells the return to the homicide unit for detective John Cardinal (Billy Campbell). While he’s keen to get stuck into the case, his new partner Lisa Delorme (Karine Vanasse) sets about digging into Cardinal’s past, creating tension between the pair. This drama is full of twists, moments that’ll have you on the edge of your seat, and no shortage of plotlines to keep you enthralled. Cardinal and Delorme’s relationship also takes its own twists and turns. Season 2’s victim is a woman who has no memory of how she got a bullet in her head, and a double murder case kicks off season 3.

Seasons 1–3 of Cardinal are streaming now at SBS On Demand. Here’s episode 1 of season 3:

Trapped

The first season of Trapped, set in a small town in Iceland, sees Police Chief Andri Ólafsson (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) investigate the gruesome discovery of a dismembered body. Trapped in by severe weather, the Reykjavik police can’t get in, nor can the townspeople get out. Among them is the killer. This, and a few other crimes, including murder and arson, keep the dreamy Andri very busy.

A huge hit around the world, Trapped returned to raucous welcome. Season 2 finds Andri solving crimes that bring up a host of political, social and environmental issues, all of which will sound familiar, and the relationships in his personal life also challenge him, including that with his teenage daughter. The scenery is just as epic this time round.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Trapped are streaming now at SBS On Demand. Here’s episode 1 of season 2:

The Teach

The premise of this hit Polish series is unusual: highly regarded teacher Paweł Zawadzki investigates crimes in his spare time. But Maciej Stuhr, who plays Paweł, pulls it off convincingly. In season 1, Paweł’s teaching in a provincial town and soon gets involved in solving the brutal murder of a student. The drama was intense for our hero, who’d be understood for not recovering from the experience.

But in season 2, he’s back, brought into a prestigious school and tasked with figuring out where three of its students have disappeared to. When they show up saying they’ve been in Paris, Paweł smells a rat, but no one seems willing to help him investigate. Now in a bigger town, he’s on his own with this bizarre bunch of mysterious folks who make it known he’s a little fish in a big pond.

Seasons 1 and 2 of The Teach are streaming now at SBS On Demand. Here’s episode 1 of season 2:

Raven

The murder of a man by his young grandson takes detective Adam Kruk (Michał Żurawski) back to Bialystok in eastern Poland to investigate. Demons quickly return to haunt him – he grew up in the town’s orphanage alongside his friend Slawek (Cezary Lukaszewicz), who was sexually abused there. Both men are destroyed in different ways from their past. Slawek compels Kruk to investigate the orphanage, leading Kruk to discover links between the two cases. Kruk’s drug-induced hallucinations make for an element of magic realism in this series that verges on horror.

Season 1 of Raven is streaming now at SBS On Demand:

The Bridge

As we wrote last year, the global impact of The Bridge has been massive. The show has aired all around the world, leading to foreign versions including the American one set on the border with Mexico and new shows featuring a border crossing premise, including Pagan Peak. This Nordic noir co-production pairs up Swedish police detective Saga Norén with Danish detective Martin Rohde to solve the mystery of the body found in the middle of the Øresund, a bridge linking the countries. Season 4 will be the final season, so don’t miss out on seeing how they wrap up this iconic series.

Seasons 1–4 of The Bridge are streaming now at SBS On Demand. Here’s episode 1 of season 4:

Bosch

How much do we love Titus Welliver as Harry Bosch? This gritty suspenseful series is based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, the protagonist, our relentless LAPD homicide detective who in season 5 faces a new threat – this time, to his life’s work. Bosch has been accused of planting evidence to nail the perpetrator in a decades-old case, throwing into question the integrity of all his investigations. Mimi Rogers stars as Honey Chandler, his attorney, and you can bet they’ll be plenty of action for our hardworking man.

Season 5 of Bosch is streaming now at SBS On Demand:

Coming soon: The Crimson Rivers

Based on the best-selling novel by Jean-Christophe Grangé, who is also the creative force behind the show, this gripping French thriller follows detective Pierre Niémans (played by the legendary Olivier Marchal) and his new partner Camille Delauney (Erika Sainte) as they investigate a series of bizarre crimes in remote areas across France. Each case has a touch of the mystical about it, revealing forgotten customs or regional myths.
