2020 has been rough. Can this garbage year turn itself around in the final quarter? Let's hope so. Let's really hope so.

Like everyone, we here at Guide have been clinging to whatever piece of good news that comes our way and look, not to make it about us, but we got some this week, when our own Eyes On Gilead: A Handmaid's Tale Podcast landed a nomination at the prestigious Australian Podcast Awards. This essential companion to The Handmaid's Tale is a nominee for Best Arts & Culture Podcast and, well, what else is there to say for us to say but: Praise Be!

The full list of finalists appears here and we'll know the outcome at the 21 November 2020 ceremony, which is virtual this year (because 2020).

In addition to the jury-voted category above, Eyes On Gilead is also in contention for the Listener’s Choice Award, which is determined by a popular vote. You can vote for it - or any of your favourite Australian podcasts - by following the prompts at https://australianpodcastawards.com/vote.

If you haven't yet listened to Eyes On Gilead, you can find the podcast available to download or stream via your favourite podcast apps and here at the SBS website. It's not only a great deep dive into the detail of specific episodes and plot points of The Handmaid's Tale, but it features in-depth interviews with actors and behind the scenes talent from the show including director Daina Reid, showrunner Bruce Miller, and series star Ann Dowd. Yes, Aunt Lydia herself sat down for an extended interview for our season finale in 2018 in an Australian exclusive.

We've got some incredible insights into Gilead's chief Handmaid wrangler.

The podcast is in hiatus at the moment, because the show it unpacks - The Handmaid's Tale - was forced to suspend production of its much anticipated season four in March 2020, right at the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic (garbage year, remember?). We'll be back just as soon as June & Co get back onto our screens, trying to overthrow the brutal regime of Gilead.
