The United Nations says almost five million people will need urgent food and nutrition assistance in South Sudan.The world body last week declared that parts of South Sudan were experiencing famine, the first time the world had faced such a catastrophe in six years.John Straziuso is spokesman for the International Red Cross in Nairobi, Kenya.He spoke with SBS's Gode Migerano.


In the latest warning, the UN says some 100,000 people face imminent starvation in the counties of Leer and Mayendit in greater Unity state, which borders Sudan.
