A group of parents frustrated by the schooling options available for their children have finally seen their efforts pay off. After a four-year campaign, the first specialised school for children on the autism spectrum in South Australia has opened its doors. Rhiannon Elston reports.

Autism spectrum disorder and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development.

These disorders are characterised, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.
