The Albanese government has named fixing the visa backlog as a priority since coming to power, with the problem prolonging wait times for applicants and businesses in desperate need of staff to fill skill shortages.


The Department of Home Affairs has told SBS News it's developing a surge capacity to meet the challenge by redirecting resources and bringing on more staff.

 

But that doesn't mean the challenge will be an easy fix.
