Mikhail Gorbachev - the man who "changed history"

The eighth and final leader of the Soviet Union, Nobel peace prize winner Mikhail Gorbachev has died. He was widely considered one of the most significant figures of the twentieth century.


Mikhail Gorbachev tried to salvage a crumbling Soviet empire but produced extraordinary reforms that led to the end of the Cold War, the reunification of Germany and the breakup of the USSR.

He has died at the age of 91.
