نتحدث اليوم عن قصة Carly Ryan والتي قضت نحبها قبل 10 أعوام في مدينة آديلايد على يد رجل خمسيني يدعى Gary Newman والذي كان يواعدها عن طريق الانترنت بصفة غير حقيقية وأخبرها أنه شاب يبلغ من العمر 18 عاماً ويعمل في الموسيقى.
وبعد فترة من المواعدة عبر الانترنت، وفي لقاء جمعهما في أحد الشواطئ المعزولة قام بضربها وخنقها وتركها حتى غرقت في الماء.
وتمت محكامة الجاني بالسجن المؤبد عام 2010. ولكن ما الجديد في القصة؟
منذ وفاة Carly ووالدتها سونيا تحاول قصارى جهدها نشر الوعي في قضية العلاقات عبر الانترنت واستهداف المراهقين والمراهقات على وجه الخصوص.
وسعت سونيا إلى إيصال صوتها إلى البرلمان والعمل على حث البرلمان لسن قانون يجرم المغررين بالمراهقين عبر الانترنت ومواجهة عقوبة السجن إذا ثبت الامر.
وبالفعل كان لها ما أرادت
"In ten years of working incredibly hard I feel extraordinarily proud today to be sharing this very special quilt with everybody here. If Carly was here right now she would say to me 'Mum why are my pyjamas in parliament?' I'm sure of it."
وإليكم التغيرات التي ستطرأ في هذا الخصوص بعد قصة Carly:
أي شخص بالغ يكذب بشأن عمره خلال الحديث مع طفل على الانترنت سيُعد مخالفاً للقانون وذلك في حال كان ينوي إلحاق الاذى بهم او الاعتداء عليهم جنسياً.
وأكد وزير العدل مايكل كينان إن المعتدين من فئة البالغين الذين يتظاهرون يكونهم مراهقين سيتعرضون لعقوبة السجن بسبب تضليل الاطفال. وتشمل العقوبة فقط اثبات ان الشخص كان لديه النية بالاعتداء على الاطفال.
"At any one time in the online environment, there could be up to 750,000 online child sex predators. We must protect our children from this danger.
"We want people who are planning to hurt a child online to go to prison, now that is a very forward leaning law. There's not many other laws on the statute book like this , but we wanted to make it happen to make sure that our child protection laws are as sophisticated and as forward leaning as they possibly can be and people convicted of this new offence will go to prison for up to 10 years."
من جانبه قال السيناتور المستقل نيك زينافون إنه عمل جنباً إلى جنب مع سونيا راين والدة الطفلة المغدورة على مدار السنوات الماضية ليرى بالفعل هذا القانون يدخل حيز التنفيذ.
"Disturbingly this is just the tip of a very big and toxic iceberg. A 2006 survey of more than 1500 young people in the US, aged between 10 and 15 reported that a staggering 35 per cent of them had been victims of either internet harrassment or solicitation for sex. The online world has grown exponentially since then and yet our laws, until now I think have been stuck in a bit like a pre-internet era."
وبالعودة في الختام إلى سونيا فتقول إن الهدف الاعظم من هذا القانون هو حماية الاطفال في استراليا،وليبقى اسم كارلي وإرثها حياً دوماً.
"Children have the right to go online and connect and have great experiences. We believe they need to be protected and they should be able to do that without worrying about being taken advantage of either physically, emotionally or financially."
