More than 10-thousand Sydney homes and businesses were still without power this morning  after wild storms hit the city on Saturday.

Sydney's north-western suburbs were the hardest hit, particularly around the Cherrybrook, Pennant Hills, West Pennant Hills, Beecroft, Thornleigh, Dural, and Castle Hill areas.

Meanwhile…

Record-breaking rain from ex-tropical cyclone Owen has wiped out crops in parts of north Queensland, and caused the death of a teen who jumped into a flooded creek.

The Bureau of Meteorology says Halifax, inland of Ingham, was hardest hit on the weekend, recording 680 milimetres of rain in just 24 hours.

The figure is five times the December average for the region, and easily breaks the previous record of around 470 milimetres in 1991.

The rain has caused flash flooding in the area, with local farmers reporting that cane fields are now underwater.
