Three men have been charged following the seizure of almost half a tonne of ecstasy in Sydney.

The drugs were allegedly found hidden in four industrial meat-mincing machines shipped in from Turkey, with a street value of approximately $57 million.

It follows a joint operation between Border Force and Australian Federal Police ((AFP)).

AFP Detective Superintendent Kirsty Schofield has praised border officials for their cooperation.

A new survey from the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre  shows Australian drug users  are consuming cocaine at the highest level in 15 years.

Fifty-nine per cent of drug users surveyed reported using cocaine in the past six months, up from 48 per cent at the end of 2017.

Dr Amy Peacock, a career fellow at the research centre, says while only seven per cent of those surveyed used cocaine weekly or more frequently, the drug appears to be getting easier to find.
