The number of Australians seeking homelessness services after experiencing domestic violence is increasing by nine per cent each year, according to a new report released today.

Mission Australia's Out of the Shadows report also reveals 42 per cent of all people who sought assistance from homelessness services in the last financial year were experiencing domestic violence.

Mission Australia C-E-O James Toomey says the issue is that homelessness services are already near capacity and more resources are needed.

A statement from him says the enormity and reality of the problem must be acknowledged if Australia wants to work towards a real and lasting change.
