Veteran Liberal Senator Eriz Abetz is confident a compromise can be reached on protecting religious freedoms despite differing views in the coalition.
The Morrison government is preparing to outlaw discrimination against people because of their religion - a bill broadly supported by the opposition.
The laws are being shaped by the opinions of more than 20 liberal M-Ps, who attended a workshop with Attorney-General Christian Porter last week. [[Fri 5th]]
Mr Abetz, who attended the worshop, says moderates and conservatives alike all want religious freedoms upheld.
He's told Sky News it is vital the laws allow Australians to express their faith but not use religion to encourage violence or undemocratic practices.
