Baited drum lines will be set to capture the shark or sharks responsible for the separate attacks of two tourists at a harbour in the Whitsunday Islands in north Queensland.

A 12-year-old New Zealand girl holidaying with her father and sister received a life-threatening wound to her leg on Thursday afternoon ((Sept 20)) at Cid Harbour.

The attack came less than 24 hours after Tasmanian woman Justine Barwick was also bitten on her left thigh while snorkelling in the same harbour.

Both remain in critical condition.

The Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has warned swimmers to stay away.
