Foreign Minister Julie Bishop is expected to urge the Trump administration to hold Russia fully accountable for its bad global behaviour, as she heads into the Australia-United States Ministerial Consultation ((AUSMIN)).

Ms Bishop will use her first meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to express her concern that Russian President Vladimir Putin could escape responsibility as the U-S seeks to re-engage with Russia.

She says pressure should be maintained on Russia “not just on the M-H-17 tragedy, which killed 38 Australians, but on the annexation of Crimea, its intervention in eastern Ukraine, what Russia is doing in relation to the Syrian regime’s use of chemical weapons, the likely role in the U-K nerve agent attack and growing evidence of cyber attacks”.
