About 5.50pm (Monday 25 February 2019), a BMW sedan, being driven by a 31-year-old-man with an 11-month-old boy as his passenger, was travelling east along Clingan Avenue, Lurnea, towards Compton Avenue.

At the same time, a Mercedes Benz, being driven by a 32-year-old man, was heading west along Clingan Avenue.

The two vehicles collided causing the front driver’s airbag in the BMW to deploy. The child suffered critical head and facial injuries and was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead where he remains critical.

Officers from Liverpool Police Area Command attended the scene and commenced inquiries.

Both drivers were not injured, however, they were taken to hospital for mandatory tests.
