Coptic family given new hope after Government reprieve

Australia's Coptic Christian community is welcoming the Federal Government's announcement it will review all the applications of those who have been refused asylum. Last week, after SBS asked the Department of Immigration about the case of a Sydney Coptic family facing deportation to Egypt, the department agreed to look into it. Now, the department says all of the claims will be reassessed following the recent violence faced by Copts in their homeland.

The policy changes have been made to streamline new pathways to permanent residency, especially to address skill shortages in Australia.
